Told You That The Far North Of Maine Is Our Deep South

THE WORST GOVERNOR IN MAINE HISTORY,  Paul LePage,   the putrid 38% governor who led to my state adopting rank-choice voting to try to prevent such a piece of shit being governor here, ever again, has won a narrow victory in the 2nd District here and will be going to Washington.   He has called him self Trump before Trump, he  is as flaming a racist and misogyinst and liar, he is like a combination of Gosar and Boebert with a little Steve King and you name the wacky neo-fascist crank of your choice  thrown in.

The 2nd District is the one which Troy Jackson as well as Susan Collins come from,  and there are many progressive Democrats there - it's generally a narrow victory or loss for Democrats up there - but the Republicans and a lot of the independents are really awful.   The most racist Mainer I ever met in my life was from there, and it wasn't some knuckle scraping, deer jacking cigarette runner to Canada, it was a college graduate, a school teacher.   As always, it's a matter of percentages and concentrations and for some reason Maine can't seem to avoid the 2nd district having a margin of racist fascists in the majority.  At best, they elected Jared Golden who often may as well have been a Republican and who, even as he left politics, managed to be a total asshole.

So LePage will join Paul Gosar in the loony tunes paleo-fascist wing of the fascist party in Congress,  North Carolina's 5th has,  as of this time done what Maine's 2nd has not, and I congratulate them if that holds.   And he'll keep Maine humble and be a reminder to our Democrats of what happens here if the party isn't on top of things.   There has been, up to now, a sort of Cumberland-Kennebec County dominant clique in the Maine Democratic establishment, one which has had an out sized role in choosing which of their members gets to run for Senate and other higher offices.   I think that might be loosening with it having been Troy Jackson who defeated Susan Collins when many of their preferred candidates couldn't do it.   I don't know how that will work its way out but I do know one thing, we need to do something to retire LePage and drive a stake through the heart of his political career.   That is if nature doesn't take care of him, given his Trumpian girth and age, 78.   If I had my preference, he'd have aged out of the job as Virginia Foxx should have.  But that's for the future, too.
