Earworm - The Guess Who - Undun

Direct link to video

If She is The Statue of Liberty (as someone once claimed "American Woman" was, though I never knew if that were true) Randy Bachman was prophetic.  The words certainly fit our situation.

 She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
It was too late
She's come undone
She found a mountain that was far too high
And when she found out she couldn't fly
It was too late
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
She wanted truth, but all she got was lies
Came the time to realize
And it was too late
She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
Mama, it was too late
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
No-na-na, no-na-na, no-na-na
Too many mountains and not enough stairs to climb
Too many churches and not enough truth
Too many people and not enough eyes to see
Too many lives to lead and not enough time
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
Doe-doe-doe-doe-doe, doe, un-doe-doe-doe, un-doe-doe-doe
Doe doe-doe-doe-doe, un-doe-doe-doe, doe-doe-doe
Doe doe-doe-doe, doe, doe-doe-doe, doe, doe
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
It was too late
She's come undone
She found a mountain that was far too high
And when she found out she couldn't fly
Mama, it was too late
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
No, no-no-no-no-no, no
Doe, doe, doe-doe

Don't know how I heard it, it must have played on the radio stations I listened to after I got a better radio and started listening to the Boston college stations on FM.  Wish I still had that old burner.  Tubes didn't add fidelity but they added something . well, other than heat in the winter and moody light when you listened in the dark.

Update: Yeah, I was trolling him.  And it worked.

Update 2:  Oh, and it really was going through my head.  I got more stuff in my memory through repeatedly hearing it on the radio than I ever got in it by intention.  The mass media is a lot more powerful and dangerous than the ultimate idiots, the civil liberties industry lie about it being.  It really needs to be required to not lie with effective punishments when it does.

Yeah, sure you were. Like you knew that I am something of a Guess Who expert and have written about them on several occasions. And gotten paid for it. :-)

God, you're a world class liar and narcissistic idiot.

    1. I'm not sure I see erudition such as might be comprised of scribbling for pay about pop music as being a form of expertise.

When the earworm was annoying me, going through the lyrics in my head, the first thing I thought was that
She wanted truth, but all she got was lies
      Came the time to realize
      And it was too late
      She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for

Described the United States under the regime of lies - which reminded me of the . . . um . . "expert" in pop music I'd read saying the woman of "American Woman" was the Statute of Liberty, a stand-in for the United States, a warning to Canadians not to buy into it.

Then, thinking of lies and their consequences among the insouciant and insipid, I naturally thought of you. And, it being the last week of the year when no one's much doing much between holidays, I figured, what the hell, I'll troll him.

How did you like my last comment where I mentioned Chuck Berry blatantly stealing credit from that one song he performed that the racist pop-music fan base put at #1 on the charts? Probably the stupidest thing he ever did and it was the one that got #1, which he stole credit for. Chuck was smart enough to make a lot of money off of minimal material but he wasn't admirable.

    And your point is? :-)

    1. Chuck was a proven and known song stealer so, since he was the only one to claim he wrote the song Run Rudolph, all others who did a cover of it attributing it to that Old Faithful who gushed out Christmas crap songs instead of hot water and the hot gas you do, Johnny Marks, he likely tried to get credit and money for that one, too. Chuck Berry got ripped off, especially by white rockers who weren't as original as he was, but he did plenty of ripping off, too. Both in music and in business, thus his criminal record.

  4. Uh no, his criminal record was on the basis of a dubious Mann Act violation, the prosecution of which was beyond racist. It had nothing to do with music or business.

Thanks for displaying your ignorance again.

    1. His criminal record started when he was a teenager robbed three stores in Kansas City and stole a car at gunpoin. He admitted to that in his autobiography. There is no doubt that he transported a minor over state lines and had sex with her. He appealed his first conviction, successfully but was convicted a second time in a second trial which he appealed unsuccesfully. Screwing a 14 year old should have gotten him a prison sentence without the transporting charge. There is the case where he assaulted a woman, cutting her face, the case of him having surveillance cameras installed in the Woman's rest room of his restaurant. Then there was the raid on his house where they found some pot and an "intimate film" of a number of women including a minor child. There's probably more but a quick google search to . . . well, when it's something so putrid calling it "refreshing" my memory isn't the most fortunate choice of words.

The Mann Act violation would seem to have been upheld in the second trial and he didn't successfully appeal that one AFTER HE SUCCESSFULLY APPEALED HIS FIRST CONVICTION. It would seem the second trial was not found to be prejudicial. He was a scumbag.

    2. I forgot to mention Berry settled the lawsuits that were brought over the surveillance camera so there's every justification to consider him guilty of it.

  5. You also forgot to mention that you never read Chuck's autobiography. Nor would you ever because you're a a shithead with no taste in pop music or any knowledge of pop music history.

BTW, I read it schmucko. It's sort of my job. And the kind of thing that's sort of my passion.

    1. I'm actually laughing about the idea of you reading a whole book. Why didn't you know about his armed robbery and car theft caper? I can believe you'd figure him illegally transporting a 14 year old girl across state lines to have sex with her (some suspect to prostitute her) is no biggie.

It's a friggin' vanity press, a "hybrid" press at best though I think it's a rather artificial distinction. Apparently one that gets a lot of civil war buff business including, according to its present "projects" list of three civil war books, one about ghosts at Gettysburg. I'd rather get it from a Halloween program where the Friends of the Library get a local ghost hunter to come in and give a talk at the public library for the sheer fun of it.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They paid me ten thousand fucking dollars to write that fucking book.

    1. I'd have to see the cancelled check though I'd probably not trust it unless a forensics documents expert inspected it. If they did it must have been part of some scheme to lose money on something so they could avoid taxes on some other thing. Their website makes it pretty obvious that it's no "major publisher."

I was going to point out any number of "authors" who "wrote books" even when it was obvious that they didn't. The NYT Bestseller's List, especially the "nonfiction" side of it is full of books written by "authors" who certainly didn't write the and those are "best sellers." I am sure you could "rite a book" of fewer than 100 pages, if there was very little text on the pages. What was the list price for your best seller, Gender chameleons: Androgyny in rock 'n' roll?

  8. This was in the late 80s, asswipe. The publishing business was totally different. Like you would know, however.

    1. Well, for a start I probably had a hand in the education of several times more musicians than who ever picked up your book to read the back cover of it. Not to mention the performances I played, maybe still will. I looked at the history of that company, it looks like it got bought up about that time in what looks like a larger corporation needing a loss leader. You, somehow, didn't make it's most significant publications list, such as that was.

    2. To read the cover of it BEFORE THEY PUT IT BACK ON THE RACK. I should have finished the thought.

    3. Not now, Simps, I've got transcribing about something important to do. Remember, you could be one New Year's resolution away from disappearing from these comment threads. Maybe I'll suspend comments altogether except as a means of someone sending me a message. Or maybe I'll just up a new e-mail address not linked to by Blogger account, that used to work better. This reached the point of diminished returns a long, long time ago. It's not even that much fun to tease you. You make it too easy.

    1. Tough? It would take me deleting your comment before anyone saw it and ignoring you. If you think that's tough I can only guess what those imaginary Irish tough boys who I guessed pantsed you in jr. high really did to you. They cross their yes and call you something like "Stevie Rim-smells"?
