if he were going to resign from the Court he'd do it. He's making his coy indication because he's hoping to make the Republican-fascist domination of the Supreme Court an election issue to get the Republican-fascists out to vote Republican to keep the Court in fascist hands.
It's not possible to rank the Republican-fascists on the Court for their villainy and vileness but Alito certainly ranks as one of the worst of the worst. A true believing fascist nutjob. He would certainly do whatever he could to try to tip the scales in this election, though the fascist six all would.
I think if the Senate is going to go Democratic he will resign almost immediately to put another Leonard Leo protegee on the Court, a certain fascist vote, if it's going to remain under Republican-fascist control, he probably won't resign. He likes to lord over and hurt powerless People too much, especially Women and People of Color and LGBTQ+ of no means. NOT that Roberts, Thomas or the other three Republican goons aren't as bad, they are.
if Alito resigns in November, he weakens the bench (he won’t be around for opinion writing on cases heard this term), and we won’t be any worse off with his replacement. And such a stunt would just increase the push for court reform.
