"It seems to me that to organize on the basis of feeding people or righting social injustice and all that is very valuable. But to rally people around the idea of modernism, modernity, or something is simply silly. I mean, I don't know what kind of a cause that is, to be up to date. I think it ultimately leads to fashion and snobbery and I'm against it."

LEVEL BILLIONAIRES OUT OF EXISTENCE
The problem is, he is just crazy. But unlike an athlete doing a new thing, this is the POTUS. Makes it a bit more consequential and frightening. The press doesn't know whether to shit or go blind.
The first thing that came to mind when I read your comment was what Dennis Rodman would be like as president. Probably as wacky but less malevolent.
I think the press has largely shown two things, some of them have shown they are dupes who aren't that bright and can figure out a limited number of things to say or they are presstitutes who will lie and support the most depraved and insane of oligarchic thugs. I remember Alexander Cockburn pointing out once, on the occasion of a late stage Soviet TV news reader who, live, on air told the truth and was arrested, that nothing like that was going to happen on American TV because none of them would have that moral courage. And that was Alexander Cockburn saying it!
I would never have believed that in 2017 I'd be relying more on GQ and Esquire for more of my news than The Nation.

Sad, isn't it?
