I don't know if anyone has ever formally studied it from this angle, but the perpetual hostility of Republicans and their whores to Social Security may well have originated in the crooked bankers and other entities through which they could steal the life savings of the underclass were diverted into Social Security where they couldn't directly steal them. The bankers alone would have hated it, not to mention that other major venue of unillegalized theft, insurance.
If I were twenty years younger I might try to make that study but it would take a lot of digging because they would have never actually admitted to the reality that SUCH THEFT IS AT THE BOTTOM OF JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THEY DO.
And the ideological opposition to it and other government programs is probably the afterthought cover-job to push in order to con and convince the stupider members of the underclass into electing their tools who will do that stealing for them. As Max pointed out in that passage I quoted from, every president from Ronald Reagan, Republican and Democratic has either pushed or failed to stop such transfers of wealth, though so far not through the gutting of Social Security though Medicare has already taken huge hits and Medicaid is a shell of what it used to be.
What you think you favor "on principle" is actually a huge line of con-jobbery as pushed by whores in the media and academia and the law.
