The Harvest Is Past, The Summer Has Ended, Yet We Aren't Saved - Jeremiah Is As Relevant As Today's news

They treat the wound of my people
    as if it were nothing:
“All is well, all is well,” they insist,
when in fact nothing is well.

They should be ashamed
        of their detestable practices,
    but they have no shame;
        they don’t even blush!
Therefore, they will fall among the fallen
    and stumble when disaster arrives,
        declares the Lord.

I will put an end to them,
        declares the Lord;
there are no grapes on the vine,
        no figs on the tree,
        only withered leaves.
They have squandered what I have given them!
A lament for God’s people

Why are we sitting here?
Come, let’s go to the fortified towns
        and meet our doom there.
The Lord our God has doomed us
by giving us poisoned water to drink,
because we have sinned against the Lord!

 longed for relief,
        but received none;
    for a time of healing,
        but found only terror.

The snorting of their horses can be heard as far as Dan;
the neighing of their stallions makes the whole land tremble.
They come to devour the land and everything in it,
    towns and people alike.

See, I’m sending serpents against you,
    vipers that you can’t charm,
    and they will bite you,
        declares the Lord.

No healing,
    only grief;
        my heart is broken.

Listen to the weeping of my people
        all across the land:
    “Isn’t the Lord in Zion?
Is her king no longer there?”
Why then did they anger me with their images,
    with pointless foreign gods?

“The harvest is past,
    the summer has ended,
        yet we aren’t saved.”

Because my people are crushed,
    I am crushed;
    darkness and despair overwhelm me.

Jeremiah 8:11-21 Common English Bible

Should Have Read This Before Writing My First Morning Post

HERE IS AN excellent article by Alexandra Harris (not a close relation of Kamala Harris, I believe) about her take on the election and why as a Black Woman the results didn't surprise her.  She does some of the lumping together of groups based on polls that I've criticized - show me a journalist who doesn't do that and I'll read them - but she isn't nearly as bad at it as most are.   And her perspective is one that is more likely to get at the truth than the one you'll get from the punditocracy.

Websters should put an alternative definition of "pundit" as an idiot who gets paid a lot to talk out of their ass on TV and the radio.  Sort of what a "columnist" is for the most part, these days.

I Have Chosen Not To Worry About Liars Calling Me An Antisemite In The Effort To Keep Me From Criticizing Israel When It Is Committing Genocide

remaining silent in the face of genocide is a disgusting, amoral luxury that I won't indulge in.

HERE is what I wrote in 2006 about why I was addressing Israel's then scorched earth war on Lebanon:

I am beyond caring if there was a reason for supporting one side or the other in any particular action in the past. If someone can tell us a way to go back and change what happened in the past it might be worth thinking about, but there isn’t one. Bringing it up is a stalling tactic, a way for cheap politicians and others to curry favor by appealing to grievances and the desire for revenge. It’s the present we can deal with and the invasion of Lebanon was dumb assed and I believe, as one of my regular readers put it so well, the Olmert government didn’t have a clue it was going to go like this. The facts now are what will have to be dealt with, not what was believed a month ago.

As we began, no one side is going to disappear but many individual people are being killed as you read this. My entire interest in this is to have as many Israelis, Palestinians, and others in the area, live to be old and to die in bed of natural causes surrounded by their intact families and their friends. It is in that spirit that I am going to say the unspeakable and voice some, though far from all, of my deepest fears.

As the generation of the Second World War and it’s children pass on there is a strong danger that the Holocaust will fade from consciousness and it’s lessons will fade from peoples’ thoughts. Huge numbers of dead when viewed in the inverted telescope of history look smaller than they were close up. Our claim on the attention of the future will compete with the entire past and will be, I’m afraid, far less compelling than their present. We will not be there to press the case. The best we can do is leave a written record of what we have known. We can’t guarantee that the future won’t repeat the evils of the past.

As time goes on, as more recent piles of bodies and other horrors block them from view, even the Holocaust will fade in its meaning to those who are not part of the groups that were murdered. The relatively forgotten Armenian genocide is one example of this and the mass graves of those murdered in Central America by terrorists funded by the Reagan administration are entirely faded from the collective, active memory of the United States. The innocent Druz, slaughtered by the USS. New Jersey in retaliation for the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon never got into Americans minds having been effectively blocked out. Even where distance is not a factor, the memory of the thousands lynched here, in the United States itself, is always in danger of slipping from the attention of white people.

I am posting a anxious warning based on what I am hearing. Israelis should dump the neo-cons who are bringing them to disaster. Those idiots, from their comfortable perches in the American establishment are going to get a lot more Israelis and others killed. Let’s face another reality, a lot of them, Gentiles and Jews alike, are pretty unsavory characters who market themselves as “supporters of Israel”. Some seem to have made a very nice living for themselves based on this. Would peace be as profitable for them?

You can read the rest of it.

I have chosen to be unafraid of being called an antisemite by those who lie for Israel.   The lie campaign that anti-zionism is antisemitism has been what kept Americans from reigning in the Israeli fascist government since Likud got power and made things ever worse.  Israel is what Jewish anti-zionists and skeptics feared it would become, a hardened, apartheid, military fascist state.  The United States has no business supporting any country that is one of those.   Most of the anti-zionists I read are Jews, a lot of them observant Jews who take morality more seriously than secularists, gentile or Jewish seem to.  Some of them have my deepest respect even as I disagree with them on some religious topics.

Some Thoughs On "How Could They Vote For Him"

YOU'VE CERTAINLY SEEN it or heard it in person (how quaint, conversation), online, in the media.  The most common assumption I've seen is that such People are stupid or ignorant but that's both too satisfyingly mean and too inspecific.  LOTS, and I mean LOTS of People who support and vote for Trump are clearly not stupid and they're not ignorant.   What they are is immoral.   The support he has from those who graduated from the top universities,  Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, etc. are clearly not stupid and many of them can't be believed to be ignorant of the consequences of someone like him having power.  The goddamned six members of the majority of the Supreme Court who gave him dictatorial powers are the ultimate examples of that.  All of them certainly did what they did knowingly and it's clear that all of them have a good idea of what will happen because of what they did.   They are clearly immoral enough to LIKE WHAT WILL NOW COME.   All of them are professed Christians, everyone from the perverted, Black People hating Clarence Thomas, up to the hypocritical Amy Coney Barrett and, clearly, none of them have much of a use for any of the Commandments of Jesus, though I'm sure Barrett might hold to the one on divorce in higher esteem - It's odd that none of them seem to take that Commandment which came straight from the mouth of Jesus seriously as they take what neither Jesus nor the Bible said against abortion seriously enough to get increasing numbers of Women killed.

But this isn't about the corrupt, jaded, decadent elites, this is about the "common People" and how we imagine how they could have done it.   I have concentrated on the fact that few of them read much of anything.  I doubt most of them -- really most people of any political persuasion - read more than headlines, at most and a lot of them don't read that much.  America is in full post-literate mode.   They will, I'm certain, listen to what TV or hate-talk radio or media hucksters and liars tell them, if it's packaged in an entertainment format as almost all of that is, now.   We can listen to an excellent speech by Kamala Harris or another Democrat and wonder how their facts, their reasoning and their presentation can't persuade the reasonable among the "undecided" but it's clear such People are not vulnerable to reality or reasoning or even the most transparent honesty.   I noted yesterday that they don't seem to like competence and even clear decency, nor do those have a very good track record in American politics.  I noted that voters rejected among the most decent men to have ever gotten the nomination of a presidential party, George McGovern and Jimmy Carter in 1980.  George McGovern lost to what was even in that election known to be a criminal, a war criminal with a record of genocide that makes Netanyahu's pale in comparison, Nixon and Jimmy Carter lost to the studio-system movie star, Ronald Reagan.   One of the stupider prep to Ivy products holding the presidency in recent times, won over two far, far smarter and better policy wonks,  Al Gore and John Kerry,  John Kerry having been what Bush II wasn't, a decorated war hero while he was gotten out of going to the Vietnam war by his daddy, a war that both of them favored other boys getting killed and wounded in.

My latest guess takes where such common voters get everything they or their parents believe they know from, and it's mainly entertainment, internet, TV, radio, and the babble they hear from other such People who get what they mistakenly believe they know from it.

Given that you might ask, how is it that the experience of the past eight years, in which Trump destroyed the economy he was handed by Obama, got at least a million Americans killed and put the lives of many more millions at risk as he babbled on live TV about People injecting bleach and taking horse medicine even as those of the highest competence (Bless Dr. Fauci) said those didn't work and would be dangerous - even as those who believed him tried that and died.  There were a million reasons right before their eyes why they should have rejected Trump and many of them did in the immediate aftermath of that experience, enough of them to make Joe Biden president.  But then they turned on Joe Biden just as so many did on Barack Obama after they'd voted for him.

My best guess at that is such People, for whom the media replaced anything like an education in the old fashioned sense of that, have been trained by their viewing and listening habits into a stream-of semi-consciousness in which the last thing they hear swamps even the clearest of lived experience.  I imagine that for a dangerously effective margin of them, even lived experience, never mind learned fact, falls to the next thing put into their minds by the media.   I think entertainment and infotanement (in which the info is more ersatz than real) has rendered them vulnerable to that distraction.   I don't have any idea how you can fix that in someone else who has those habits of non-thought baked into them by a steady diet of too much TV and movies and hate-talk radio, it's hard to avoid being sucked into it yourself.  I think I was vulnerable to it when I was younger,  TV is probably the most democracy destructive thing ever invented.

As you, no doubt, know, all of that assumption is based in my major theme of the fatal danger of allowing the media to lie with impunity, which the Courts, especially the Supreme Court, staffed by the supposedly best and brightest did.  Earl Warren and his colleagues did so out of the world of illusion that the law so often is, I am thinking of the lawyering racket as an intellectual exercise in sophism in which you come up with babblage to arrive at the result you want.  Walter Brueggemann noted that the "textualists" of the law, Scalia was his example, never, ever seem to come to a "textualist" or "originalist" meaning for the Constitution or laws that disagree with what they wanted it to mean to start with.   I think those who adopted the Sullivan Decision wanted to stick it to the racist who brought the suit so they let the liberally respected great gray lady print whatever lie the Sulzbergers and their hired hands wanted to.   I don't remember thinking much about that decision at the time but I'm sure I'd have liked that result at the time.  It was only on trying to understand how things went to hell after that that I realized that at the base of it was lies told in the media, starting with how I tried to understand the 1968 election that brought Nixon, who everyone in my family knew was rotten, to power.   I was aware that the media was all-in for Nixon that year.  It was the contrast to how all of the media in 1980 and 1981, especially the media I listened to which was mostly NPR and PBS by that time, turned from clear hostility toward Jimmy Carter to its fawning genuflection On Bended Knee* to the racist, Hollywood product of little brain, Ronald Reagan.

Anyway, those are some of my thoughts on how Trump voters in this election and many of the non-voters are so invulnerable to even the hard experience of the disaster that Trump I was and are so willing to take another chance on the even more pathological, clearly senile, convicted criminal, Trump this week.  Though he is the most officially criminal and obviously senile, that's not novel in American presidential politics and how the media covers for them,  Nixon and Reagan were obviously criminals by the time of their reelection races and Reagan was clearly at some stage of dementia, which was widely known in DC by 1984.

What is new now is a small majority of Americans who voted, voted for a man who dementedly danced on stage for more than half an hour and simulated oral sex before a crowd on live camera.  Many of them supposedly voting for him out of religious principle.   Clearly many an "evangelical" and even many who aren't in the "trad Catholic" cult among Catholics are OK with both of those.

That is along with those who did it out of their misogyny, either unadmitted or, in so many cases, plainly stated, even those who weren't motivated, as well, by racism.   I think that misogyny - and a lot of such misogynists are Women - is the main factor in this.   Much as I wished with all my heart as I supported Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris for president,  I think it's clear that I, as clearly Joe Biden was, were wrong to think we have made that kind of progress in the United States.  I think our presidential system has a lot to do with that impossibility,  most of the examples of Women in that position in other countries have parliamentary systems in which the chief executive is chosen by a party and not by the voters.   I wonder if she had to be chosen by the British voters as such if Thatcher would have ever become Prime Minister.  But there's no way to know that.  The British media might have been able to pull it off for her,  I don't think they're any better on that than American media and I don't think British voters are any more sophisticated or rational than American voters are,  their system just tends to not go for the stupidest and crudest of the criminals.  Though they did get Boris Johnson and put up with him longer than any rational electorate should have.  Come to think of it,  I remember having to tell a young woman at the University of Maine who was happy about Thatcher becoming PM that she should be careful what she wished for because she was going to be a terrible leader.   They kept her on even under the brutality of her economic policy for everyone but the upper class.   American voters aren't that much stupider than the ones there if at all.

* The title of a still excellent book about the corruption that flourishes in our "free press" which has always, on balance, been supportive of everything from the bad to the worst in our politics, our culture and our society.   It's always been that way.  The media learns nothing, nothing at all and under the Supreme Court made law of the land, they aren't required to learn anything.  That's what "freedom of the press" means in post-Christian America.

I Won't Be Fair To Facists, I Won't Be Nice To Nazis - Short Form

LONG TIME COMMENT READERS here will know that from time to time I have been posting the comments of someone with a fascist, even Nazi adjacent cybername.   Though you may not realize that is what it is, I am enough of a student of neo-fascism that I knew it the first time he used it.  He is certainly aware of the implications of using and and, I'd guess, he suspected I'd be, as well.

I believe he's someone who used a different cybername here in the past, someone I used to engage in sometimes long and sometimes rather heated arguments, some of those on a rather more intellectually advanced level than your typical online blog brawl but someone who I have engaged less and less often as his comments became more and more fascist, even Nazi adjacent.   I temporarily banned him in the past for bringing what were arguments conducted here to another blog where his comments weren't welcome.  As I will point out, the whole reason I moderate blog comments is because I will not host attacks made on other people who aren't active participants in a confrontation and who, so, can't defend themselves.  I will not post comments that attack People dishonestly.   I had my fill of that at the ol' baby blue blog that I quit twelve years ago and I didn't intend to host one like it, myself.   I have no problem with attacking someone who attacks me in an active blog brawl, that wasn't the problem with the comments of the guy in this case, it's a. the slander of third parties and b. the non-stop lies.

Anyone who wants to post comments here can either follow my rules or they are wasting their time typing out their slanders, third-party attacks and lies.   I will, also, not host fascist-Nazi adjacent content under any conditions.  Such content should be universally banned as should any other unjust, anti-democratic content.  I think People and publishing outfits who carry such lies should be liable to be sued into silence by those who they attackand it's due to the stupidity of the Supreme Court and the First Congress who wrote the First Amendment so badly that prevents that.   I'd be a hypocrite if I carried that content after railing so long and so often against it.   We can discuss that if you'd like but only if you follow my rules.

Rejecting Blanket Condemnation Is A Political Necessity AND IT IS THE ONLY FAIR THING TO DO

THIS IS A POST about facing clear, hard reality.  While that reality is hard, it's not as hard-hearted as the delusion that it opposes,

By now you know I think opinion polling begins in pseudo-science and ends in patron pleasing manipulations.   I don't trust any of them because of the first and so I figure the patron pleasing manipulations are simply the results of the lack of honesty, of morality of those who engage in such pseudo-science to start with.   I think the most cynical of them, and I figure they must all be pretty cynical after operating that racket for a while, knowingly give the ones paying them what they want.  In the corporate media, that's pretty much what the owners and controllers of it figure is in their own financial interest, though some individual extra-financial obsessions might get figured into it.   I'm sure those who are paid by someone like Rupert Murdoch will always figure his racism and misogyny into what they deliver to him.

So it should not surprise anyone that I am especially opposed to the blanket blame put on categories of People, large ones or small ones, in order to cast blame for the results of elections.   I have, such as in 2016, used such pseudo-science which I don't believe in as a basis for arguing against the even then post-fasionable atheists of the blogs blaming Christians for Trump's win, especially relevant because he lost the popular election and was imposed by the abomination of the goddamned Electoral College.   I pointed out that even the most conservative denominations were polled as voting for Hillary Clinton in larger numbers than all atheists and agnostics, pointing out along the way that from just below to just above a quarter of such voters voted for Trump, at least according to the Pew Research report.

It's not an unreasonable generalization to say that a majority of white men voted for Trump,  I'd guess, especially straight, white men.   Well, I'm gay but I am a  white man as, by the way, were most of those I argued against in 2016 and as far as I know all of those I was arguing against were STRAIGHT, white men.   Every man in my family voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris this time.   In fact, I'd go so far as to say I wouldn't be surprised if most of the straight white men in New England voted for all three Democrats in those elections though I wouldn't be inclined to believe any polling that showed that or the opposite.   But, then, I don't know many guys who are into the incel-scented, a-hole, "bro-kultur" that is so prevalent on the stupid internet, which most days seems to be the majority of it.

Well,  if I'm not willing to make the blanket condemnation of straight, white men which I would be tempted to make out of anger and the worse angels of my nature,  I sure as hell am not about to make a blanket condemnation of Black men, Latino men,  or any of the other groups we are suckered into stereotyping by the "enlightenment" so-called science of opinion polling and exit polling and the ubiquity of a-holes in the most popular of media.

I will say that I think the numbers in the last three elections indicate one thing, that misogyny is stronger than gender-equality in the American electorate, much as I really wanted to believe that it wasn't.   In saying that I don't think it is an exclusive bigotry on the part of men, straight, gay, Of Color or white, there are enough Women who buy into it to make a difference in our corrupt system.

All of this stereotyping, all of the soc-sci, poll dancing hype all of the blanket blaming is exacerbated by the fact that the fucking founders gave us a rigged system, the Electoral College that magnifies such tiny numbers in the margins of any divided vote and leads to the angry, irrational AND ENTIRELY COUNTERPRODUCTIVE stereotyping of whole masses of voters.

If I can find it, I remember writing on his when a marriage equality provision was voted down in California, of all places when Black voters were blamed for that.  The only rational grouping to assign blame for that WAS THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED AGAINST EQUAL JUSTICE FOR LGBTQ+ PEOPLE.  That was the only group that should have been targeted, and they were all held together by one common thread, bigotry against LGBTQ+ People.

The only people to blame for the loss of democracy to Trumpian fascism are a. those who voted for him and, b. those who neglected to vote against it.   We might, possibly win a few of those who wake up from Trump cultism and we might persuade more of those who didn't vote NO MATTER WHAT CATEGORY THE GODDAMNED POLLSTERS AND SOC-SCI PHONIES CHOOSE TO PUT THEM IN.  I think there are enough straight, white men who we might be able to win over and if there are enough to make that effort worth it,  it's certainly not worth it to alienate those in other groups being blamed en masse.

I am ashamed of my country and deeply angry and even a little sad to conclude that Democrats should not run another Woman for President for the foreseeable future.  I say that having voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary in my state, voted for her in the primary and for president in 2016,  put Elizabeth Warren as my first and Kamala Harris as my second choices in Maine's ranked choice primary in 2020 (Joe Biden was my third choice) and voted for Kamala Harris last week.

We have never had a more qualified presidential candidate than Hillary Clinton in our lifetimes, the only one I can think of off had who I think might technically have been as or more qualified in history was John Quincy Adams.   I don't think there has been another better qualified candidate than Kamala Harris - just as I thought that Elizabeth Warren would have made a fine if not great president.

But, clearly, America doesn't go for the best qualified candidates nor, as we learned in both 1972 and 1980 the most decent of men to have ever gotten the nominations of a real political party in our history.   WE HAVE GOT TO GO FOR THE WIN THAT WE CAN GET, NOT THE WIN WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE.   I hate myself for having to say that but I am convinced that we should not risk running another woman for president for the foreseeable future.  THE STAKES FOR WOMEN OF HAVING A TRUMP OR A BUSH OR A REAGAN ARE TOO HIGH TO RISK IT FOR THE SAKE OF BREAKING THAT GLASS CEILING.

---------------

As a post-script, one of the things I mentioned in a short post seems to have had some impact, at least if what I've read in comments about it are true.   I've read many comments from angry Muslims and others about Bill Clinton's pro-zionist rant in the days before the election.  BILL CLINTON SHOULD RETIRE ENTIRELY FROM SUCH STUFF AND KEEP HIS STUPID MOUTH SHUT BECAUSE HE CLEARLY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO WIN ELECTIONS OR HE HAS SOME URGE TO SANDBAG DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES.   He screwed over Hillary Clinton with his self-indulgent and stupid meeting on the tarmac with Loretta Lynch giving the Republican-fascists,  the New York Times and James Comey the opportunity in the closing days of the 2016 election that got us Trump,  he may not have cost Kamala Harris the election but he certainly didn't do anything to heal the division caused by Israel's genocide in Gaza.

I will also say that the "Israel right or wrong" that is demanded by zionists is a millstone around our necks.   I have every suspicion that the October 7th attack was planned by Putin and his Iranian allies who run Hamas to have exactly the effect it has had.  I wouldn't be surprised if the utterly corrupt Netanyahu was entirely willing to play his part - there isn't a genocidal opportunity he's been given that he didn't use to his political advantage no matter how many People died.   Israel is just another country that always gets exceptional treatment.   We have to start treating it as just another country, one in the control of a military-fascist apartheid regime.   Those aren't ideas I dreamed up, they are attributes which I read used by the Israeli opposition who don't seem to be able to gain even as much of a hold on governance as Democrats do in the United States.   The reality of the disaster that zionism has been has got to be faced, square on.   I reject Israel's manipulations of our politics as much as I do Putin's or Xi's or the Saudi dictators or the Iranian theocrats.   I'm very encouraged by the young American Jews who are rejecting zionism in growing numbers, Israel will never be what it was sold as being.  The more I listen to Jewish anti-zionists and read the history they point out, the more skeptical I am that it was ever a viable project or a just one.

I Will Never Stop Pointing This Out - Another Comment Thread Post

The election that brought Nixon to office was the first presidential election after the Supreme Court gave the mass media a carte blanche to lie with impunity under the Sullivan Decision, the decision that the court in 1976 built on in the Buckley v. Valeo decision to overturn the legislation to outlaw many of the corruptions that Nixon practiced in the 1972 election..  The decisions built on in Citizens United that furthered and explicitly legalized the billionaire, FOREIGN and domestic of American elections that brought us Trump.   It all started with the Sullivan Decision made on behalf of the New York Times who sandbagged Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, the most successful Democratic President in terms of actual legislation since Lyndon Johnson, the one that was done in by the media in the immediate aftermath of the Sullivan Decision.   I remember that election and it was the first one I was aware of when virtually all of the media was obviously pulling for Richard Nixon, the criminal.

Elizabeth Warren Gave Me A Pep Talk That I Didn't Think I Was Really Up For

Now There Must Be A Schism In The Catholic Church In Fact One That Has Been Going On A Long Time To Little Notice

READING THIS PIECE on Catholics' reactions to the criminal Trump winning the election,  in which they note what the catho-fascists differ greatly from Catholics who try to, you know, be Christian, I thought about what Sr. Simone Campbell said about why Pope Francis was so timid about making radical change, that he didn't want there to be a schism during his pontificate.

Well, I don't think that's an option anymore, in fact, I think there has been a schism going on for a long time as those who aspire to live as Christians cannot tolerate the Catholic right who clearly don't.   It has been such Catholics who have left the official Church, some for other Churches (I know one such priest who is now a minister at a United Church of Christ) or for Intentional Eucharistic Communities or the exiled order of Roman Catholic Women Priests or just as unaffiliated Christians.   That's going to get worse, now, as the millionaire-billionaire funded take-over operation that has been so strong in the United States gets boosts - their greatest tool is exploiting the cardinals' and bishops' and many priests'  love of money and wealth.   Truly the love of money being the root of evil is made manifest in the actions of so many of them, everything from luxurious living to just the necessity of re-roofing a cathedral or church building.

As the U.S. bishops have been dominated by the appointees of JPII and Benedict XVI, the quiet, unofficial schism has been in full swing.  As Pew has pointed out, "ex-Catholics" are one of the largest religious groups in the country.  I'm sure the same is true for many other countries with large Catholic populations.  That's certainly a schism, even if it's one that doesn't produce one or even many groups.  The fretting in Rome over the tiny little groups like the Pius X cult or the even tinier ones that claim Pius XII or even earlier popes were the last legitimate pope while the huge exodus from the Catholic Church has gone on in plain sight is bizarre.   Benedict's idiotic permission of the nutters to say Latin masses and form a cult around it was in service to luring back those cults who were generally far more apostates from Christianity than from Catholicism has led to all kinds of trouble.

I hope either Pope Francis or his successor will face the fact that they have to make a choice, they can either give those who want to try to live as Christians a home in the Church or they can choose the billionaires and millionaires and the cultists they fund and encourage.

This is a product of me doing something I generally never do, listening to one of John Allen's Youtubes from his Crux platform and looking at the loony tunes comments from Catholic cultists.   John Allen was whining about the Pope cutting the Cardinals pay, using his connections as a former Vatican reporter to claim that low level workers are worried that it's going to mean a pay cut for them too.   As if there's anything like a comparison between the luxurious lives of many of the "Princes of the Church" and char women.   If you want to read cultist paranoia and hate, I'm sorry to tell you that you can find it in abundance on many a Catholic Youtube comment thread, if not in the videos, themselves.

I'm disgusted enough with the Cardinals and Bishops in the U.S. that if there was a church in my town, I might not choose to attend it,  I certainly would be careful of where my donations were ending up and what they were supporting.

Egalitarian Democracy And A Decent Society Feed From The Jewish Commandments of Justice And the Christian Ethic Of Love Everything Else Is Postmodern Babble - Hate Mail

IF YOU READ the link I gave to both my post about it and the blog brawl I got into with an atheist who was obviously either lying about being able to read German or about what it said, you will know I said that I should have done in the beginning of it what I finally resorted to, provide a nearly word for word translation of it.   Of course, that's impossible because the word order in German follows different patterns than English sentences do but I stuck to the original as close as I think anyone could.

Blogger The Thought Criminal said...
Oh, for crying out loud. Identify what Habermas said there was no alternative for. Here I've translated it word for word.

Das Christendom ist für das normative Selbstverständnis der Moderne nicht nur eine Vorläufergestalt
Christianity is, for normative understanding of modernity, not only a preformation

oder ein Katalysator gewesen.
or a catalyst.

Der egalitäre Universalismus, aus dem die Ideen von Freiheit und solidarischem Zusammenleben,
[What] Egalitarian universalism, from which the ideas of freedom and communal concord

von autonomer Lebensführung und Emanzipation, von individueller Gewissensmoral,
of autonomous life and emancipation, of individual moral conscience

Menschenrechten und Demokratie entsprungen sind,
human rights and democracy have sprung from,

ist unmittelbar ein Erbe der jüdischen Gerechtigkeits
is an unmittigated inheritance from the Jewish doctrine of justice

-und der christlichen Liebesethik.
and the Christian ethic of love.

In der Substanz unverändert,
In unchanged substance

ist dieses Erbe immer wieder kritisch angeeignet und neu interpretiert worden.
this inheritance has been critically adopted, over and over, and newly interpreted.

Dazu gibt es bis heute keine Alternative.
For that [meaning for producing all those things] there is till today no alternative.

Auch angesichts der aktuellen Herausforderungen einer postnationalen Konstellation
Even given the present challenges [to Christianity] in a post national world,

we feed from this substance [ the combination of Jewish justice and love in Christianity]

Alles andere ist postmodernes Gerede".
Everything else is postmodern babble.

In other words, Christianity isn't a mere precursor or a catalyist for those things listed, it is the very thing that nourishes them, even today, there is no alternative source of those things.

Habermas is talking about the culture of Europe and the Western world in general,  by an overwhelming margin, of the two things listed which could be the direct source of that long list of things we enjoy in modern egalitarian democracy, the direct source of its prerequisites, is identified in the subject of the first sentence, Christianity.

With German intellectuals, you don't get the whole meaning of a passage if you choose to ignore everything that is said.  They don't have the current Anglo-American superstition that complex ideas can be conferred in 4th grade language and simple sentences, you've got to read every word.

It was the atheist bloggers who were lying about what Jurgen Habermas said, if anyone wants to point out where my translation of it is inaccurate,  try your best.

Since I don't like to repeat something without pointing out something new,  really think hard about that first sentence and what it means in terms of America's liberal democracy failing to  the cheapest of show-biz con-man hate mongers.

What he, an atheist, life-long scholar and thinker has concluded near the end of his life about where any notion of modern, egalitarian, democratic decent life comes from, are the very things that not only atheists despise but, clearly, many "evangelical Christians" and "traditional Catholics" reject as much,  the radical economic and social justice of the Jewish Scripture and the Christian ethic of universal love.    Exactly what Americans have been entertained out of by more than a half century of violent, macho, cynical, stupid entertainment and propaganda.   American democracy was murdered in the movie and TV studios and on shock jock, hate talk radio.   It won't come back till the effective margin that elected Trump and Republican-fascists are converted to that.

The so-called "enlightenment" has had more than two and a half centuries to come up with alternative sources to nourish those,  if they had been there a European atheist intellectual like Habermas would have found them.  Since he didn't, there's no rational reason for anyone to believe those exist or can be produced from what founded "the enlightenment."   I have documented how one, after another the founders and heroes of the "enlightenment" have, instead, supported the opposite.  In terms of the American Constitutional system, anyone who kept or supported the keeping of human beings in slavery or the genocide of Native Americans and the theft of their land and other properties, in short, just about all of the fabled founders who inserted the anti-democratic provisions into the Constitution.

I'll give you the same challenge that the math prof I challenged never took up,  show me where the quote doesn't say what my translation says and my conclusions from it.

Malcolm Nance Has Some Suggestions About What To Do

I'll look for his Substack but I'm kind of exhausted now.

Get a gun? That's your advice?

WELL, if you do, stop drinking get in shape and keep your head clear despite all the temptations to bury your sorrows in intoxication or fantasies.   It was make believe, "reality TV" that gave us Trump to start with.   I'd immediately stop buying anything from Amazon or subscribing to the goddamned New York Times.  If you do buy a gun, get a competent shooter to show you how to shoot it and practice.  If you're going to take a shot you'd better be accurate.

I was serious when I said that American democracy won't come back in any form until a majority of Americans really believe that they are to do to others what they would have done to them,  that they are to do for the least among us what they would for The Lord, herself.

I wouldn't give a cent to the ACLU, I was dismayed when that was the reaction of so many at the start of Trump I.   They had an enormous role in this, mostly in getting the media the right to lie with impunity.  They have not learned a thing from the past fifty years as they've had a hand in creating just about every tool the fascists have used to get us here.  All in the name of the goddamned First Amendment.  I was dead serious about its serious faults and shortcomings.   Any money given to them is wasted, the courts will not protect us, they were among the biggest enablers of Trump.   Who will get away with sedition, insurrection, certainly of selling the United States to Putin and, I have no doubt, will now funnel every secret held by our military and domestic security establishments to the dictator-billionaires.   The Supreme Court and many lower courts have given him a green light to do that.   Harvard, Yale,  Princeton law,  etc. where so much of that ACLU crap comes from have been cultivating this since Joseph Story issued the Prigg decision - which is as fine an example of any of how the law isn't only an ass, it's an amoral asshole more times than not.

Read the Psalms, especially the Psalms of grief and complaint.   You'll find more to go on there  then you will from the pundits and the on-screen lawyers, much as you might want to believe them.   Look at Jeremiah who is as relevant as anyone.   Democracy is in exile, democrats are in survival mode, those of Color and minority status most of all.  As I said, we should learn from them.

American Fascism Gets Another Bite At The Apple And Will Eat It All This Time - Thanks To The "Free Press"

I CAN'T SAY it's the first time I have been glad that my parents, both of them WWII veterans, my father having been permanently disabled in battle against fascism and Nazism, are dead and are not here to see what has happened to the United States.  Trump I made me feel that way.

With this we can see beyond any doubt that America's liberal democracy,  our 18th century system has broken or been destroyed or died.   This is proof, positive that the compact that was warned about by some of the original anti-federalists during the manipulated and dodgy and, let's face the history of it, anti-democratic adoption of the Constitution needs to be looked at very seriously.   I'd especially recommend the radical abolitionist Wendell Phillips' The Constitution A Pro-Slavery Compact (download it from the Library of Congress before it's suppressed) in which he detailed the many ways in which white supremacy,  slavery in his day, was inserted into the very mechanisms of the government.   It's those mechanisms, up and running, the Electoral College, the anti-democratically staffed Senate, and many others that have been the cliff up which those who wanted a real democracy, an egalitarian democracy, have had to push boulders up again and again,  including the Civil War and the great Civil Rights struggle of the 19th and 20th centuries, only to see them pushed back by the Supreme Court, by the states securely to  marginally controlled by white supremacists and anti-egalitarians.

If you think what I just said is radical,  I will guarantee you that something like that is going to be what scholars around the world will be analyzing this disaster as, the utter failure of America's democracy due to its inability to do what Lincoln tried to do, appeal to the better angels of our nature.   He did that in his first Inaugural Address, as the white supremacists, always our indigenous form of fascism, were breaking out of the Constitutional system because they sensed the privileges that slave-power had been granted by the fabled idols,  the framers of the Constitution, were in danger.   Clearly the worst of them ruled over an enormous part of the country then,  ruled by pretty much the same mechanisms that their descendants, the actual losers of the Civil War and their more modern forms in what turned into American apartheid used, which the Republican-fascists have been trying to bring back from about the second the best laws ever passed into law, the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act were signed into law.   The best hopes of the Civil War, a long and effective Reconstruction of the Confederate states was ended by the corrupt bargain made to bring Rutherford Hayes to office under the goddamned Electoral College.  Whatever civic piety you've been fed about the better angels winning that one,  in the scope of the century and a half after that,  no, no they didn't win, at all.

As I have never stopped pointing out, the American "free press" and the ACLU and the short-sighted and rather stupid Warren Court all played their part,  the latter two by getting the mass media the "right to lie" from the Court and the "free press" by using that to lie in a series of progressively worse Republican presidents and congresses who appointed progressively worse Supreme Courts.   The stupidity started with the vague, b-grade 18th century poetry of the Bill of Rights,  especially the First and Second of those.   The idolization of James Madison, as dedicated a white supremacist as we've had in the presidency or in the Congress, is one of the proofs of the failure of American history, both the study and teaching of it.   The fake historical song and dance of Hamilton, promoted to death by the New York Times and Disney is proof of that.

America's corporate media has been the engine that brought us to the death of America's democracy.   They have been all-in on that since the Sullivan Decision was handed down, starting with the 1968 election - it was the foreign policy and military disaster of the Republican encouraged Vietnam war that they used then, we will see the extent to which President Biden backing the Israeli government's Gaza invasion has played in killing it off right now.   I think it's well past time that Americans have given unconditional support for that experiment.   I think history will prove the anti-zionist Jews were right about it all along.

What do we do now?  I don't know.  I am tempted to do what Wendell Phillips proposed to do, leave the failed compact and try for a regional democracy.   I'd suggest joining Canada, a country with a somewhat better Constitution - they learned something from our mistakes, but I don't expect its democracy will not be destroyed even if they manage to avoid an actual invasion and takeover by American fascism.   Having said that,  I don't think we will get out of this without major violence, the kind of violence that, under America's Constitution has been carried out against Native Americans, Black People,  Latinos, other minority groups and, let's not forget WOMEN not only with impunity but holding the very mechanisms of power.    I don't think we are going to get out of this without serious, very serious violence and oppression.  The billionaires, who I am entirely convinced are all in on the evolutionary psychological belief in the "selfish gene" are going to be ruthless.  When you read some of the most insane ideas feeding those like Peter Thiele (the co-owner with Elon Musk of the immunized presidency) they will be all in on death camps.   I have every reason to believe that Trump will be a temporary thing, he will be pushed aside by Vance and his gang, who will have the billionaires resources behind him.

America's liberalism has failed, I am entirely certain that failure is tied to the failure of mainstream Protestantism and liberal Catholicism under the regime of materialism, secularism and the fascist heresy of "Christian nationalism".   As you, no doubt, know I include the current members of the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops among those most culpable, along with the multi-millionaire-billionaire Catholics who have funded some of the most unhinged theorists of their movement, some of them sitting professors at the likes of Harvard.   The goddamned Ivys and their equivalents have been all in on this too, under the slogan of "intellectual freedom."   You can't allow the enemies of equality, of justice, of democracy to flourish and expect that those will survive.  America has never had more robust promotion of equality, justice, democracy, etc. in our history and the fascists have won.  1960S-70S STYLE FREE SPEECH ABSOLUTISM HAS FAILED AND BROUGHT DEMOCRACY DOWN WITH IT.

Anyone who favors justice over injustice, the least among us over the billionaires, the truth over lies, reality over Hollywood created fantasy,  democracy over fascism is not only in for a long, long dark and sleepless night, we are now at a kind of risk we have never before been in.   I think the best thing to do is look to those who have survived and progressed under American fascism in the past,  Black People and other People of Color,  Women, members of other targeted minorities.   One thing we must never, ever be suckers for again it is the laissez-faire, libertarian concept of "freedom" "liberty" that provided America's fascists the "right to lie" their thriving.  All of those legal niceties that the liberal pundit lawyers have voiced, endlessly, on TV, MSNBC, NPR, are moot.   The institutions that operated under them have failed us,  most of all the American legal system and the elite lawyers of the Department of Justice have failed us.  The Supreme Court has certainly failed us because the majority of them never intended equality to survive and never intended for anything like a real democracy, the egalitarian democracy that the only good part of American history has struggled for, to succeed.   The elite, Harvard, Yale and other Ivy League lawyers on the Supreme Court have done this to us, including all of those who nullified the disqualification of an insurrectionist to run for office.

American democracy is dead, the survivors have to face that squarely.  Right now.  The surviving democracies had better face that fact and I'm sure they will,  they shouldn't smugly figure this is an example of the stupidity of Americans because not one of them has all that good a record, either.  Learn from our mistakes or you will find the very vulnerabilities embedded by a written Constitution in your systems will be hacked by the axis of billionaires, domestic and foreign (XI, Putin, etc.) that have done America's democracy in.

I intend to keep this up as long as possible, I can't say that I'm not seriously considering buying a gun and learning to shoot it.   I may take Ida Wells Barnett's advice to Black People in the face of lynch law to heart,

“A Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home, and it should be used for that protection which the law refuses to give.”

The law won't protect us, the time of the lawyers and courts as a protector is gone.   They have failed us and were never a reliable source of security.

But I may not,  I will believe what the Psalms, what the Gospel and the Prophets said over and over again,  God is the only source of protection,  more secure than life, itself.   America's democracy won't be revived until the bases of it in the economic justice of the Law of Moses and the Gospel of Jesus are believed in by an effective majority of Americans.   As Jurgen Habermas did actually say, those are the only sources of nourishment for what we took to be decent governance.

Maybe I Should Stop Looking At The Comments Waiting For Moderation

I STOPPED caring about what the Geritol and Ex Lax set at Eschaton said quite a while ago,  about the time Phila and NTodd left.   I encountered a few people I liked there, some of who I keep up with,  I have no interest in any who I know still frequent there.   If I cared to I'd look for the first time I compared it to Harry Hope's bar - which was quite apt - but I don't even care enough to look in my archive for that.   It's a sheltered day-care for geezers, like those talking-face videos they have to keep dementia sufferers sitting in one place,  nothing more.

Pundit Stupid Inputs And Poll Slop

MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA has a summary of the total and complete negligence of the broadcast networks to cover policy during this election.  That's not a shock, they've pretty much stopped covering policy in favor of Republican-fascist talking points, polls and pundits all obviously in service to helping Republican-fascists in this most dangerous election in our modern history.   The idolized and lauded "free press" has entirely reversed the only reason for ever including it in the First Amendment,  that it serve to accurately and honestly inform Americans on what we need to vote responsibly and to live better, safer lives as citizens in a viable democracy.

It's going to have to happen sometime, either now or after a total disaster, the media is going to have to be a. kept from spreading lies, b. to really give accurate, timely and important information and c. stop aiding white supremacists, billionaire and millionaire enemies of democracy (their owners and advertisers and in many cases its "journalists", in short).   If they don't serve those purposes they don't deserve any kind of special privileges which the drafters of the First Amendment so naively phrased in the language of rights.   Rights inhere only to human beings and other living creatures,  they do not inhere to artificial entities,  everything from the "press" and organizations and corporations right up to and including nation states and other national entities.

While I'm sure this will be put off many times as the enemies of democracy try again and again,  we have got to start breaking the idols of Constitutional and First Amendment conventional piety.   It's pretty clear many of the online "journatlists" of the right and the play-left (Greenwald, is a perfect example) are in league with the international fascist movement which Rachel Maddow sensibly called The New Axis,  Putin, XI, the Kim regime in North Korea and the Iranian clergy-gangsters.  And others.    They are joined by many if not most of the big media companies,  the NYT, WaPo, etc.  As I mentioned recently the supposed alternative of PBS, NPR and C-SPAN sold out lots earlier.

They should be made liable for lies told about politicians and politics, sued into non-existence.   If Hillary Clinton had been able to sue for the lies that even the most august of them told about her she could have bankrupted them and we'd never have had Trump.   If Trump had been able to be sued for all of the lies he told about  he would have been eddling knock off junk on sidewalks decades ago.

This election should be the death of the myth of the New York Times as a great institution of American democracy and American culture.   It is the property of a wealthy family out for another big slug of Trump giveaway.   I think it's what an insightful Latin journalist said it was, a gaming platform with a bit of journalism attached to it.   If A. G. Sulzberger is still in control of it in 2028, he will be doing his best to get Republican-fascists elected.   He has done something I wouldn't have thought was possible, being more of a piece of slime than Pinch was.

Off With Their Wealth - Let Them Keep Their Heads, Put Their Asses In Prison

THE RECENT New York magazine revelations of the lavish travel junket that America's most openly MAGA "justic" Alito and his fascist flag flying wife took at the invitation of the putrid Princess Gloria von Turn und Taxis (Gloria von Tut) is the latest reason that we need drastic and far reaching court reform but it's only one facet of the part of the connections between America's Republican-fascists and the still very rich and decadent and very dangerous detritus of European royalty.  You should read the linked to article if, like me, you let this reporting go during the last weeks of the campaign that has had us all sitting under a razor sharp sword.  The revelations of that link to one of the three "justices" I said should be under immediate investigation for possible tax fraud and other law breaking if Kamala Harris wins tonight is just the beginning.

Here's an older must-read article from open Democracy about how the still dangerous royals and nobles of Europe are tied in with the neo-fascist wave that we are pushing against here.

Just as a sample.

While far-right leaders from Italy to Hungary position themselves as siding with the ‘grassroots’ against liberal elites, this is also a VIP-studded network: Princess Gloria – a friend of Steve Bannon, who plans to use her palace in Germany as a summer school for European populists – is not the only aristocrat involved.

openDemocracy reviewed the programmes for each of these events since 2004, and found about 100 politicians among the 700 people listed as speakers over the 15 years – along with an archduchess from Austria, a French prince, and a Portuguese duke.

“On both sides of the Atlantic”, noted Hillary Margolis, a researcher for the NGO Human Rights Watch, increasingly “politicians and lobbying groups misrepresent efforts to improve gender equality – including access to reproductive health and rights – as dangerous to children, families and so-called “traditional values”.

“There is now a real transatlantic movement on these issues”, added Heidi Beirich, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has designated the WCF an anti-LGBT ‘hate group’ for “pushing for restrictions to LGBT rights under the guise of the defense of the ‘natural family’”.

The WCF is key to this cross-border ultra-conservative organising, Beirich said, “bringing together organisations from predominantly Europe and North America, but also other regions, to strategise and push for their agenda”.

Joseph Grabowski, a WCF spokesperson, told openDemocracy this week that it disputes the SPLC’s ‘hate group’ designation and called it “an unfortunate slight for the countless Americans and the people around the world who hold the same views as we do on marriage, the nature of family and the right to life”.

No doubt there is far, far more to this than these two articles have documented.  One could ask why an American "justice" is allowed to receive lavish gifts from these fascists and be knighted into any kind of foreign "knighthood" as Alito was.   That a lot of this involves Catholics and Catholic institutions should be troubling for Catholics,  Pope Francis has done more than any other pope to clean up at least some of the most well known of these "orders" but the question has to be asked why should they be allowed to exist as official Catholic entities.   I wrote years and years ago about how John Paul II made the Aussie smut king and tabloid liar and world wide fascism promoter Rupert Murdoch just such a "papal knight" when he wasn't even Catholic.   As someone who is still considered a Catholic the whole thing stinks.   Such big name Catholics as the putrid Cardinal Raymond Burke is all in on it (I wonder if he and the princess share fashion secrets when they get together).

This is more of what I was talking about with white Catholics' fascism problem, considering the resources for financing neo-fascism these tiara and coronet headed thugs hold,  it is something that should concern American and other democracies national security agencies,  including those in Germany, France, Italy, etc. where those thugs operate from.   Royalty and other such aristocratic designations should be ended, including stripping them of their property.    While I might not agree with cutting their heads off on moral grounds,  I can say that any American official who is in league with it should be impeached and investigated for possible crimes.  Alito should be first on that list.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan Should Resign Over His Pastoral Negligence Alone

INSTEAD OF writing a response objecting to what I said about the white Catholic fascism problem after the Al Smith Dinner and Trump's Nazi Rally in Madison Square Garden I'll go with this report about how the almost exclusively white, male, elite US Catholic Conference of Bishop's almost entirely non-condemnation of what was said in either case.   Especially note what it says about the smarmy, ever-smiling Tim Cardinal Dolan.

Among the first to speak on behalf of the Catholic Church was San Juan Archbishop Roberto González Nieves, who issued a statement on behalf of his Puerto Rican brother bishops: "Puerto Rico is not a floating island of garbage. Puerto Rico is a beautiful country inhabited by a beautiful and noble people." The "joke," he said, not only provoked "sinister laughter, but hatred."

Only a few Catholic leaders have joined Gonzalez in condemning Hinchcliffe's disparaging remarks. The Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, issued a statement saying, "There is no room in the Church of Christ, nor the world, for hatred of ones' brothers and sisters, or for any malice to be held in one's heart against them." San Antonio's Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller described Hinchcliffe's remarks as demonstrating "a lack of maturity."

But the silence among many Catholic leaders is reminiscent of the decades of cover-ups and excuses when tens of thousands of children suffered from the sexual abuses perpetrated upon them by Catholic priests and other religious leaders.

The silence of New York's Cardinal Timothy Dolan is especially noteworthy. New York City has the highest proportion of Puerto Ricans in the United States, the majority of them Catholics and faithful church attendees. Yet, even now, days after Trump's rally, not a word from Dolan.

In the past, Dolan has boasted of his close relationship with Trump, calling him "a great gentleman" and a "great friend of mine," telling Trump in 2020 that he calls him more often than his 90-year-old mother in Missouri. Those comments stand juxtaposed to Trump's crude references to women, boasting in 2016 that he likes "grabbing them" and "forcibly kissing them."

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dolan pleaded for funding to keep the diocese's Catholic schools open. In return, he received $1.4 billion in federal aid at Trump’'s direction. Maybe he has $1.4 billion reasons for keeping quiet now.

Dolan is not alone in keeping mum. Jack Jenkins, a Religion News Service reporter, tweeted that all the bishops in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops he contacted to respond to Hinchcliffe's remarks either refused to answer or did not respond.

The US Catholic Conference of Bishops is mostly staffed by those appointed by John Paul II and Benedict XVI and they are mostly a moral and pastoral disaster.   I hope Dolan is retired soon.  He always reminded me a lot of the criminal Bernard Law, the one who took it on the lam when he knew he was facing a subpoena as the clergy sex abuse scandal broke and who was given a plum assignment by the morally problematic JPII.  He clearly has no problem with Trump's history of sexual abuse and rape and I'm sure he's not stupid enough to be unaware of Trump having wanted his mistress who became his second wife to have an abortion, since that's the excuse a lot of them use for supporting Republican-fascists.   The Catholic right has always had a strong double-standard on even the issues that they allegedly care about most.

On The Cusp Of Democracy Or Facism - What The Supreme Court And The ACLU Have Wrought

LISTENING TO THE video The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism,  hearing Jim Wallis talking about how Trumpists, Republican-fascists encouraged by Steve Bannon and others to park trucks with America's swastika, the Confederate Flag full or guns next to polling places, near predominantly Black Schools, etc.  Hearing him talk about how officials managing polling sites have to be concerned about armed attacks ON OUR POLLING PLACES, it occurred to me that the very real, very violent, terrorism conducted by almost exclusively white, Republican-fascists is of absolutely no concern to our elites, certainly not the legacy and corporate media, certainly not the goddamned Supreme Court which has aided in arming these terrorists with full knowledge that that was what they were doing.

America's elites, white, wealthy, owners of most everything have been setting us up to be terrorized by their white-supremacist gangs for the past fifty years and the goddamned free press have been largely all-in on the effort.

It is insane that we are putting up with the courts and, especially the Supreme Court doing this in full view for as long as they have been striking down laws to reign in the weapons that are an intrinsic part of this terror.   If the goddamned Supreme Court members and their staff had to experience WHAT THEY PERMIT SCHOOL CHILDREN AND POLL WORKERS TO EXPERIENCE it might make some difference.  Short of that, the Congress, if it is not in the hands of the goddamned Republican-fascists have to remove the protections that shield the "justices" from the results of their decisions and those they allow to stand through the shadow docket.

It is, in some ways, just an extension of the terrorism that has been used to suppress Black People, other People of Color and others for our entire history,  that has been the legalized practice under slavery then Jim Crow and under the Roberts Court revival of Jim Crow in which white supremacists steal the representation of People of Color just as was embedded into the Constitution under the infamous 3/5ths rule that the end of legal slavery enhanced into a theft of 5/5ths of the representation enumerated but stolen from those they prevent from voting and having representation.

If Kamala Harris becomes president, if she gets a Democratic Congress she has her work cut out for her.   One is getting several Amendments overturning the outrageous decisions of the Roberts Court,  overturning Women's ownership of their bodies,  making a Republican-fascist president a dictator (you can be certain if Biden or Harris exercised the power they gave Trump, that would be different), outrageously legalizing the post-facto payment of bribes - something that you'd expect the most corrupt of banana republic Courts to do - but one of the most important ones is to disarm the legions of white-supremacist thugs and fanatics before they become the invisible army of white supremacy that I have ever reason to believe that everyone from the perfumed, manicured John Roberts down to the most white supremacist "justice" in modern history,  Clarence Thomas, fantasizes preventing equality and democracy from coming into effect.

If they are not under criminal investigation right now,  Roberts, Alito and Thomas should be, as should the spouses of Roberts and Thomas.  If Democrats have control of both or either house they should subpoena the tax records of all five of them to make sure they have not been cheating on their taxes and if they have they should be prosecuted.   Including the "justices".  Kavanaugh's past and whether he lied under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee should also be investigated and if he did he should be prosecuted.   I don't think anyone should worry about discrediting the Court, it's done that job already.

I will mention the ACLU because they have played as big a role as any outside group in creating this situation through their "free speech" and other positions which have brought us to where we are.   I've gone into that at length here.   I could mention other lawyers groups and the lawyering-liaring profession in general.   I have some reservations about Kamala Harris because she was educated into the culture of the law and might have a hard time imagining something as unconventional as a president who, like Abraham Lincoln, rejected the Supreme Courts usurpation of power under Marbury v. Madison,  the basis of the Dred Scott decision and a whole volume of other judicial outrages.   I think it's well past time that the Presidency and Congress declared that Court usurpation null and void and they cut the Court down to the size they have in more secure democracies.   I heard that the wonderful Fran Lebowitz suggested that President Biden dissolve the Court with the imperial powers that the Roberts Court invented for the most criminal of modern American presidents.   I don't think he'd need to go that far but declaring Marbury v Madison illegal would do the same thing, along with those criminal investigations and prosecutions mentioned above.   The Supreme Court being cut down to size is one of the things that is essential because the fascist Roberts Court will nullify any attempt to clean up our country as the goddamned Court did with the campaign fiance reform laws passed after the Nixon crime spree became public.   I think if Kamala Harris becomes president she should demand those Constitutional Amendments ending Roberts' legalized corruption,  their nationalization of Women's bodies, turning the president into a dictator be adopted or she will exercise the powers that the Court gave Trump.   It will be the only way she'd get it past enough Republican-fascist controlled state legislatures to overcome the goddamned Roberts Court white supremacist fascists.   Short of that, court packing will be necessary as will be imposing term limits - send them back to riding the circuit after a reasonable term.   Something has to be done and with the out of control Court it will have to be drastic.   We can't allow the Courts to have the kind of power they have assumed on their own.
