I understand they've made the, what is it, 17th version of Dame Agatha's Orient Express? Just what the world needs. Two years before that cynical, formulaic, uh .... she wrote her book, the entirely better author Graham Greene wrote Stambol Train as one of his "light" books. It has a far more complex plot, far deeper characters and far more interesting implications I don't ususally post adaptations but I figured this one was worth it.
Grahame Greene is a better writer than Agatha Christie?
ReplyDeleteCourageous words, Sparkles, and unminced. Who would have known that without you?
Like you've ever read either of them.
DeleteYou keep telling yourself that, Sparkles.
ReplyDeleteBTW, what's your favorite book about a fictional musician? Here's mine -- ever read it?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Christophe
Me, I devoured it in junior high.
I wasn't aware they did a Classix Comix version of it. I'll bet you ate library paste, too.
DeleteI am prepared to believe you may have copied a few cover flaps in jr. high.
So you never read "Jean Christophe." Quel surprise.
ReplyDeleteI prefer biographies of real people and Jean Christophe is a pretty silly novel, a literary man's idea of a composer's life. I never did read his biography of Beethoven, I don't think I've ever heard a musician refer to it.
DeleteAs I recall, when I was in Jr. High I was studying the real Beethoven's op. 10 sonatas. I know I played the c minor one, I might have played the F Major one, too. But I played so many things when I was young I don't really remember.
I am pretty sure I read Babbitt when I was in 8th grade - you know, the one they passed you through so you wouldn't be sad about being retained - with whom you have a lot more in common than you'd ever want anyone to notice.
You wouldn't know a Classics Illustrated from a Zap Comix.
ReplyDeleteYour idea of The Great Books.
DeleteI used the x to annoy you, you tireless little meter maid of orthography.
I've decided I'm bored with you, tonight. I need to wash my hair, it will take five minutes so I don't have any more time to banter with you.
