Orrin Evans Trio - Autumn Leaves

Orrin Evans, piano

Vincent Archer, bass

Obed Calvaire, drums

I love how you have to really listen for the standard in the improvisation when Orrin Evans is playing it.   Good for the attention.

  1. God, that's awful. To steal an old Sid Ceasar joke, obviously they have a guy in the band on radar in case Orrin gets too close to a melody.

  2. Considering who he regularly has ask to play with him, the likes of Kurt Rosenwinkle, Chris Potter, Robin Eubanks, etc. clearly he's a musician's musician and not a pop critic's musician. As Charles Ives would say, you have to use your ears and mind while he's playing, two things you hate to have to do.

Also Black. You've got a real problem with that.
