THERE ARE LOTS and lots of geezers in my age cohort and somewhat older whose terminal illnesses and deaths I don't comment on. There's nothing special about Rudy Giuliani that would lead me to comment on his hospitalization, apparently for pneumonia at the age of 81. My first thought was it was unsurprising that a guy who seems to me and who is reported to be an alcoholic would have health issues in their old age. Though it generally surprises me how long some hold on when their drinking should have killed them years earlier. Why, Rudy, himself said something like that a few years back when the NYT reported on what had been obvious to a lot of us with experience of living with alcoholics noticed years earlier.
“If I have an alcohol problem, I should be in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records, 79 years old and I’m an alcoholic."
If he thought 79 was past the life expectancy for an old alcoholic, well, we agree on something.
I'm not an idiot. If someone spent their life doing evil as Giuliani has, I'm not going to pretend otherwise when they die. I don't believe in not telling the terrible truth about the dead out of some fear that they'll haunt me. What could he do in that regard that the lying, libeling, slandering troll hasn't done in life?
You want my comment on Rudy's impending demise (RID)? I'll tell an old joke.
Irish Widow: I want you to say a mass for my late husband.
Young Priest: Certainly. I'm sure his soul will be out of purgatory by the time of the final blessing.
Irish Widow: I don't want that. I want him in purgatory for a good long while.
What she said.
