Contrary To What Has Been Claimed

Fats Domino was, from everything I've ever seen about him, a good husband and father, a good family man, a good member of his community and from everything I've heard from him, he was a very talented musician, piano player and songwriter.  I'm happy for him that he had 89 years of life and hope he's gone on to his place in The Kingdom of God.    Whatever else you may have read.

I'm not going to pretend to hold the kind of grief for him that I would someone I knew, personally, someone much younger who died too young or of preventable or treatable disease or illness or unnatural causes.  That kind of mawkish display is way too common and way too phony and way too cheap and entirely revolting.  It's not about the person who died but about the person who's making the phony display.  There's way too much phoniness in the world, as it is, without me adding more to it.

  1. Of the early rock'n'rollers, note that pianists tend to live longer: Fats Domino (passed at 89), Huey Smith, Little Richard, even Jerry Lee Lewis has managed to outlive the rest of his Sun Records peers.

Maybe it's because they spend so much time sitting down?

No, a wake should celebrate a life lived. Domino lived a full one. Not an empty, fragile existence deemed important by his notoriety but a rich one spent as a part of his community and culture.

I read he cited one reason he rarely strayed from New Orleans was his inability to find good food outside of Louisiana. Never been to the Pelican State but I'm wondering if it'll ever live up to its reputation.

Godspeed Fat Man, you earned it!

    1. I doubt it's from sitting down. That's the worst thing about playing a piano. Back when I was in school and practicing 6-8 hours a day I couldn't stand sitting down the rest of the day.

It's surprising for someone his size to live that long, too, though later in life the pictures I've seen he seems to have slimmed down for part of it.

89 is a good age to get to, no shame in dying that old.

    2. No shame in dying that old? As If there was shame in dying younger?

      Yup, I was right yesterday. You’re a sociopath. You’re a moral monster.

    3. You don't have to keep proving my point, Simps, it's established that you lie about what people said because it's the kind of liar you are. I'm going to have to coin a neologism to name the pathology you are such a prime example of.

I don't know whether or not to name it after you or after Duncan's blog which was the first place I noticed how often it's resorted to by people like you.

  2. That was a joke about sitting down. Drummers often do as well and no one will tell them their job isn't physically demanding.

    1. I just really hate having to sit down for hours and hours at a time. I used to stand up to read because I couldn't take it.

  3. Drummers in Spinal Tap found sitting down to be particularly self-limiting...
