Judge Teasdale As a Cynical Pop Music Critc

Horace Rumpole: May I read a short extract from a so-called historical novel entitled "Lord Stingo's Fancy".

Judge Teasdale: Ah yes, isn't that the one that ends happily?

Horace Rumpole: Happily *all* Miss Nettleship's novels end, my Lord - eventually.
[laughter from the jury]

You know, Simels, you going on and on about your Poldark fetish as if it's supposed to bother me only succeeds in making me feel smug.  I'm not unhappy to learn that you and other Eschatots are thrilled by faux-18th century bodice rippers as made by the BBC.   It's mildly amusing to find out that beneath that cynical, would-be sophisticate pose you're really the Judge Teasdale sort.  Like you, he enjoys a "ripping yarn," only he's got the attention span to read them.

If I could find my copy of the Rumpole Omnibus that contains The Bubble Reputation I'd have more but I don't have time to search for it.  I think of my time reading all of the Rumpole stories as a minor vice but at least those were funny.   I'll always think of you with a judicial wig and a fussy little manner,  seeking vicarious but entirely safe thrills, now.

Tell me, is Duncan a fan of that drivel, too?

Update:  Oh, dear.  Lord Simps is not amused.

  1. You're never funnier than when you're talking about stuff you know absolutely nothing about, which of course is most of the time. Here's a clue, numbnuts -- Poldark isn't just a ripping yarn -- not that there would be anything wrong with that if it was -- but it's also a devastatingly realistic depiction of the British class system at the time (as are the books, incidentally). Of course, you don't know that because you've never watched the show or read the original source material. Which is why you can confuse Poldark with all that Barbra Cartland crap.

That's sweet, Sparky. I always think of you think as a small man in a loincloth and a turban playing the trumpet.

Oh hell, Sparky, just about everything -- including take out menus from Maine Chinese restaurants -- makes you feel smug.

    1. a. I've been to NYC a number of times, you ever been to Maine?
      b. I don't believe I've ever been to a Chinese restaurant in Maine. I haven't been to a restaurant in about thirty years. I prefer to eat at home.
      c. You're only making me feel smug about your typical NYC provincialism, now.

    1. Flaming isn't the same thing as dazzling, Simps. And you obviously don't know the difference between your ass and your urb.

  6. Ever been to Paris, Sparky? Ever been to Athens? Ever been to London? Hell, ever been to Chicago? Or Dallas? Or Los Angeles?

    Ever been to Queens?

    1. As you're the one who introduced geography into the discussion I'd prefer we dispose of the one location you mentioned. Obviously you've never been to Maine and, so, have no more knowledge of Chinese restaurants in Maine than I have Laotian restaurants in Dallas, Texas.

I can't remember if I ever had occasion to go to Queens. If I did it didn't make that much of an impression? You ever been to Meddybemps?

  7. Queens is the most ethically diverse place in the whole fucking world. What's Meddybemps claim to fame?

    1. It didn't produce Donald Trump, for a start.

    2. I sort of doubt Queens is more ethnically diverse than Paris or London or lots of other places.

According to this site, it's not even the most ethnically diverse in the United States.

  8. Over 200 languages are spoken in the borough. As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

    1. And Donald Trump never learned to tell the truth in any of them. Something he shares in common with you.

You claiming that that site does rank Queens or even the whole of New York City as the most ethnically diverse municipality in the country? NYC ranks fourth in ethnic diversity in that listing. I looked at the site so the only thing I claimed is exactly what I know about it. You, as usual, pulled what you said out of your own ignorant preference.

And Meddybemps didn't produce Donald Trump. Queens did. NYC did. NY State did. The American media that you defend did. They did it with that interpretation of the First Amendment that enables your people, American liars. That "liberal" ruling on behalf of the NYT did elect Donald Trump. He is your people, Simps, the shame of your state, your city. Your arrogant, provincial, vulgar, money grubbing, self-centered, self-fixated city produced him just as my over-rated-as-liberal state produced Paul LePage out of a combination of selfish ignorance and the idiocy of legal reform that made it possible for a millionaire spoiler to run two campaigns that enough idiot pseudo-liberals and others fell for to put him in office. Twice.

I'm not a chauvinist about my town, county state or region, you are a typical NYC chauvinist who is blind to such things as it is also the burg that voted for scum like Ed Koch and Rudolph Giuliani and a list of other corrupt scum going back centuries. I can recite a huge list of sins, flaws and stupidities that the people of my town and state have committed, I'm not under any illusions about it.

  9. BTW, New Yorkers HATE Trump and always have, dating back to the 70s, before he became the major media nuisance he became in the 80s. He's the punchline to a bad joke here. And his name is turning into an epithet, especially in Manhattan for obvious reasons.

  10. Oh, and BTW -- the NY Times and the Sullivan Decision did not elect Trump. He was elected by ignorant cracker racists assholes, a corrupt FBI director and traitorous elements in the Republican Party.
