But even more satisfying was the Dutch media, in his first press conference with them as ambassador wouldn't let him just continue lying about it. I especially liked the woman who said, This is the Netherlands, you answer questions. It would be nice if our "free press" would take that same line.
Hoekstra was a bottom feeder in American politics, which is why Trump appointed him.
"This is the Netherlands, you answer questions." As opposed to American media, where we wait for somebody else to oppose what was said, and then report on "The controversy," because: objectivity!
ReplyDeleteGood point, "objectivity" is such a good way to support the status quo. Or the most obviously wrong thing, it works that way too.
DeleteAll that has stirred American journalists (some, not nearly all) away from their god of objectivity is relentless attacks by Donald Trump. He's right, he's good for CNN's business, and CNN reporters have had enough and aren't taking it anymore. Kinda sorta. Almost. Maybe. Well, on the shows they headline, where they can talk about the news rather than "objectively report it."
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, business as usual. Even after "Fire and Fury," discussion of Trump's obvious crackpottery is verboten. Nobody even asks "What the hell?" when he starts talking about "congratulatory letters" (letters?) or "F-52's" being sold to Norway, in a press conference with the Norwegian head of government.
F-52 is a fictional plane from a video game. The most you'll hear about it is questions to Sanders about whether Trump plays video games. No reply from the WH, so far.
But our reporting is objective! Hoorah!
